La plupart des gens ne les remarquent même pas : trois minuscules silhouettes assises au bout d'une longue jetée dans le coin de l'un des tableaux les plus célèbres du monde. La plupart des gens pensent que ce n'est qu'une représentation de la mer. Mais Louisa, elle-même aspirante artiste, sait qu'il en est autrement et elle est déterminée à découvrir l'histoire de ces trois personnages énigmatiques.

Twenty-five years earlier, in a distant seaside town, a group of teenagers find refuge from their bruising home lives by spending long summer days on an abandoned pier, telling silly jokes, sharing secrets, and committing small acts of rebellion.
